On a related note, Der Spiegel has a story about how European leaders are preparing for the worst:
A horror scenario is making the rounds these days in both Berlin and Brussels: Should the outcome of the U.S. presidential election on Nov. 3 be close, incumbent Donald Trump could declare himself the winner when polls close, even if he is behind in the vote count. He could prematurely and unlawfully claim the presidency. ... The upcoming U.S. election is unique because in addition to the two possible outcomes, a third has also crept into the discussion: What happens if Donald Trump simply refuses to leave the White House even if he loses the election? Should that happen, the stability of democracy in the United States would be put to the test. It could even call into question the future of democracy as a form of government. How can Europe prepare itself for such a scenario?

The world Trump is offering is exactly the world they want. They don't mind burning down the house; it clears the way for a new better one. Maybe something in the plantation style, but with more gold accents.

Some of the assholes would burn their own house down just to inspire a coughing fit in the liberal next door.

I'd say it's more 'the world they think they want.' Trumpers have no conception of how interconnected the world is - even within the borders of the United States. To take a simple example: They want to ban imports and immigrants, but they do not understand what that would do to their food supply.

Let's do it. Let's empty the shelves for a week. We can survive it. Let's fucking do it. Let's teach Trumpistan a lesson they'll never forget.

If that doesn't work, declare them legally braindead. If they want to vote they can move to Chicago.

I admit I have not read any of the details, but I don't really get what is up with how a Federal policy can have "top tax rates by state".

That is probably the combined Federal/State/City tax rate.

At this point I think we have to assume that, lulz or not, all agitprop ends up being real in 2020.

I’ve seen someone on twitter use a version of that as their screen name and sometimes avatar, I think it’s mostly for lulz but also I think they really are rather left and also very much going to vote for Biden.

(Everyone knows it’s a play on this, correct? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antifaschistische_Aktion)

My hot take on the last debate, such as it was, is that Trump won because he beat the public's low expectations and because Biden made a gaff about oil that likely shot whatever slim chances he ever had of carrying Texas. That said, with an audience some 10 million lower than the first debate, something like 52 votes having already been cast and poll after poll showing a very small percent of undecideds, it's unlikely to narrow Biden's lead elsewhere. Still, however unlikely it ever was that Biden could carry Texas, if by some fluke he did, there would be thousands of election lawyers frantically trying to get the down payment money back from that boat or vacation home they were hoping the rest of 2020 would pay for.

At this point there is no possibility of Biden carrying Texas. There is also no possibility of Biden losing the election. Joe Biden could have a Stroke and lose the power of human speech and it wouldn't change the outcome of the election.

Trump will be the one taking the oath on the 20th. Nothing is changing that outcome. Though I do agree he’ll probably lose the popular vote.
