You know, the Onion makes a darn good point: Who'd've thunk that a black candidate would be cast as the educated elitist upper-class snob of the campaign? America has come a long way when the black candidate is stereotyped as buying free-range chicken and organic arugula at Whole Foods, and taking the groceries home in his Prius.
I want to ask a black colleague what he thinks about this video but whenever we're at the wine and cheese socials he just won't shut up about high-dimensional topology (you know how those people are).

I'd ask the black colleague of mine who's in the office today, but he's a programmer who went to a high-ranking CS school, so he'll probably start talking about anime again, you know how those people are.
This is a personal problem. There are very few personal problems that cannot be solved through a suitable use of high explosives. This is not one of those exceptions.

Oh you don't have to tell me about it. I had to stop going to the wine and cheese socials because the algebraic topology crowd would just take over. They had no respect for anything. We'd be playing Medieval Capitals Anagrams, and before we could even start, they'd be going on about how alpha commbinitorics subjected to temporal invariance was or wasn't a homotopy equivalence. Just insufferable.
I keep hoping they'll just figure out how to classify the homeomorphism and be done with it. Then we can all enjoy a little Brie and figs in peace.

Eh, it is an interesting idea though keep in mind that the "uppity negro who doesn't know his place" is another way to undermine black people. I've been called an "uppity nigger" before.*
That being said, I do think that the fact that we have a decent chance at a black president or female vice-president is some sort of sign of progress. Too bad they are both filthy statists.
Libertarians: The real minority. Even if you ignore the blue ones.
*And not even before I segued into some detailed discussion of programming, molecular biology, or anime. :)

There is the uppity angle, true. OTOH, white Democrats also get bashed for buying organic arugula at Whole Foods, so at least there's some parity here. (See: Kerry, John, 2004) The Rev. Wright & Scary Black Man thing seems to have run its course (aside from a few people searching Kenyan hospitals for a birth certificate that says Barack HUSSEIN Obama). All they have now is an "uppity" angle that is not so different from the way John Kerry was treated.
(Note that the "they" I refer to here is bipartisan, including Hillary Clinton's machine as well as the GOP machine.)
I'll grant that the "elitist" angle can have some additional "uppity" connotations when hurled at a black candidate, but seeing the same smears hurled at both Kerry and Obama seems like a very strange form of progress. Ideally, progress would happen when everybody gets the same good treatment, but in the real world it seems like progress pretty much means the same shit for everyone.

I've taken it a step further. One merely a member of the Elite, I am now, through hard work and, of course, natural ability, a member of the Dlite. I aspire to the Blite eventually, or perhaps even the Alite.
