Leaving aside the fact that she didn't actually ask a question, what to make of McCain's "I don't disagree with anything you've said" remark? A telling slip, or just McCain being an old man with slipping mental functions again?

Re: Hm, what to make of this?
Would have needed to see the rest of the reply.
By implication, it could have been taken as "I agree our veterans deserve the best of care." OTOH, it was a little weird in that a smoother pol would have started off with "I agree that our veterans deserve the best of care" and then turned the comment into one of his own policy points.
Can't call it a "gotcha" moment.

Re: Hm, what to make of this?
I'm inclined to agree, but at the same time, I wouldn't put it past McCain to be in favor of a draft. Which is why I'm sure it's not a gotcha moment, but it could be some sort of Freudian slip.

Re: Hm, what to make of this?
Well, right now Canada has a shortage of skilled tradespeople and people with college degrees, so I guess it would be OK if he was. ;)

Re: Hm, what to make of this?
As long as I can still move there after I've served my prison sentence for refusing to serve, we'll be good. I won't be conscripted into slavery, but I'm not going to just ditch out, either.
Oh, and you have to let me live in Vancouver. The east doesn't really agree with me.

But Canada is cold and, not to mince words, filled with Canadians! Why can't, oh, say, the (British) Virgin Islands need people with college degrees?

But then, it's not like you're going to be drafted anyway, so... :p

Re: Hm, what to make of this?
If they institute a draft, I'llrefuse to serve. And I'll stay right in the United States and take the court-martial.
That being said, I think that McCain stopped paying attention to that (non)-question...and as an aside, I fucking hate dumb people like that who can't pose a proper question...all they do is use the opportunity to bitch about their (pet issue). Irritating.

Re: Hm, what to make of this?
I thought 'refusing to register for selective service' was prosecuted in the civilian courts, not the military courts. It does not seem logical that a military court could prosecute someone who was not in the military. (Of course, 'logic' probably doesn't have anything to do with it.) Have I got it wrong?
His body language certainly did not indicate he was listening, although the way the "questioner" rambled, I found it hard to keep listening.

Re: Hm, what to make of this?
No, that's correct. Ayn Randian is in the military, which is why his refusal to serve would be seen as desertion and tried in a military court. The rest of us wind up in a minimum security jail for 9 months. He goes to prison for 5 years.

Re: Hm, what to make of this?
OK, thanks for clarifying.
If anyone needs a place to stay in Victoria, send me a note. I have a spare bedroom. With two month's notice, I can probably get the place semi-clean.

Re: Hm, what to make of this?
Probably not. It's 120 bucks round trip on the ferry & then I'd have to stay overnight. (The last ferry from Vancouver to Vancouver Island leaves at 9:00 PM.
Unless they decide to add a night run to the ferry schedule. Besides, most of the Olympic events I like to watch are better on TV - if you go to the downhill skiing, you can only watch a small part of the course and get about a 3 second view of each skier as they zip by.
