this is funny to me, because my grandfather was in the OSS/CIA for a long time, and I had always heard through the family rumor mill that Child was a clandestine operative.
Good to have it confirmed though. And I'm definitely in the "awesome" camp here.

I gotta go with the awesome designator. She is also responsible for freeing Americans from the tedious tyranny of boiled veggies.* Even non-epicures like myself owe her more than could ever be repaid.
*That's the recipe my mother used. She was not alone.

Julia Child was the awesome. This is not news however, it's all in her Wiki. She met her husband while working for the OSS (examining aerial photographs IIRC).
What I find most fascinating, is that during this time, she could do little more in the kitchen than boil water. It wasn't until after the war that she first experienced French cuisine. Julia Child was 40 years old before she learned to cook.
We all owe a debt of gratitude to her passion for spreading that knowledge to the rest of America. Thank you Julia.
EDIT:
BTW it's 'Child' without the 's'.

Re: Julia Childs ... Spy?
I'm not sure if that's terrifying or awesome. Leaning toward awesome, especially when I imagine her passing secrets through cooking.

Re: Julia Childs ... Spy?
I'm definitely in the awesome camp. As is the news that Lucky Luciano was also a spy.
If you don't want to be arrested by the Park Police, don't go to the Jefferson Memorial.
Re: Julia Childs ... Spy?
I concur on the awesomeness. Though this is funny for libertarians, regardless of the context.

I understand that her Bombe Surprise was to die for.
