FOR THOSE GOING TO CHI-GRYLLICON ca. 7-12: Rank proposed activities

Stevo Darkly's picture

Please rank these activities in the order of their appeal to you, from 1st ("I really really really want to do this one") to 10th ("I don't want to do as much as any of the others.")

This will simply help us gauge the relatively popularity of the various proposed activities.

Note: I am going to take "Fri. night get-together at restaurant suggested by VM" and "Saturday evening barbecue at linguist's" as givens. See also here for more info and proposed schedule: http://www.grylliade.org/node/2376#comment-75379

How come "sitting on a corner, picking your respective noses" isn't on the list?

What gives?

Warren?

You forgot the art institute *and* the Museum of Contemporary Art. There is a Jeff Koons exhibit going on there that should be really good.

EDIT: This piece is going to be exhibited. Of course this exhibit is going to be awesome.

I recommend the Museum of Science and Industry. Also, I think Hopper's "Nighthawks" should be back at the Art Institute by now after a big Hopper exhibition tour a year or so ago). Not my favorite Hopper (and much smaller than I always imagined!) but it's kinda like an American "Mona Lisa." And the Frank Lloyd Wright house at UC is worth a look if you're anywhere close.

Re: FOR THOSE GOING TO CHI-GRYLLICON

Sheesh. Well, I somehow missed seeing that the Art Institute, whatever the fuck that is, or the Museum of Contemporary Art were among the previously suggested activities. In fact, reviewing the most recent thread, I still fail to see those suggested anywhere. Hence, they were not included in the poll.

Remember, I don't live in Chicago and have only been there for a couple of short/limited visits, so I can't add anything to the list that I'm not already familiar with, obviously. Just as I can't "forget" anything I don't know about in the first place, equally obviously. So if you guys have additional contributions to make, speak up.

Wait, Ken Shultz did mention in passing that some of his best good old times were spent at the Art Institute, but I failed to catch that as a suggested activity for this group, especially since Ken isn't even coming to Chicago (IIRC) and nobody else said anything about it.

Unfortunately, for some reason it is not possible to edit this kind of poll after it is posted. So I'll have to redo this with a new poll later.

If you guys have any other suggestions for activities, PLEASE SUGGEST THEM NOW, either here or at the Gryllicon planning thread, BEFORE I DO ANOTHER POLL, because TIME ONLY FLOWS ONE WAY, PEOPLE. (As far as we know. I think.)

If I end up going to Chicago that weekend, I would definitely plan to see Dengue Fever at the Empty Bottle on Friday night.

Re: FOR THOSE GOING TO CHI-GRYLLICON

smacky, I think you should, if you are really into that.

I also think that anyone should feel free to break away from the crowd and do their own thing for a while if it's something you really really want to do but it doesn't make the Most Popular list with the rest of the crowd.

Myself, I tend not to enjoy concerts all that much if I'm not already familiar with the band or their music. Exception: If I personally know the members of the band. I'd go see fyodor's group play, if I make it in Thursday night, but I'm not sure I can.

Come to think of it, I should probably add Little Fyodor & the Babushkas and also Dengue Fever to the Poll Version 2. If people can't make it that night to see them play (as with fyodor's band) or maybe aren't as interested (as might be with Dengue Fever), then they can just rank those events as lowest. My oversight.

can't we just do something snobby, like hit a wine bar (of course, that would be under the pretense of snobbery...it would, in fact, be a way to drink more).

I might be an alcoholic...

Seriously, though...I'm in for wherever.
