Oh, and please discuss why.

Practical. Politics is about compromise. It doesn't always go down easy.

I voted "Legitimate Standard Bearer," but really, my vote is for both that one and "Opportunist, Career Politician and Weasel." I don't think the two are mutually exclusive.

Bob is doing with the LP exactly what Ralph did with the greens. I expect a similar aftermath.

And what Ross did with the Reformers!! Ha-ha...

Didn't he invent the Reform Party, though?

Having been a LP activist I have to say that practicality and compromise do not come easily to most LPers (or I suppose to libertarians as a whole). It was something of a battle to get people focused on political ends and to not get bogged down debating munutiae.

That's exactly what I was thinking as I punched my chad.

I'm pretty sure he did.

And, if I remember rightly, there was some surprise that it continued after his seeming loss of interest. I think most people tough of it as his own vanity project. Could be wrong, of course.

There's a possibility that I may actually get to see (and photograph) Bob Barr tonight! I'll keep you filled in.

See if you can get the photo when he's standing close to a mirror. I want to see if he casts a reflection.

Yes, he was there, and yes, I got some pictures! So apparently his visage can be captured in electrons, at least. :-P

He's a pretty well-spoken guy, although I admit I couldn't tell you now, only about an hour later, much of what he actually said. He is a politician, after all. Then again, it wasn't a serious platform speech, either. What I remember most is him saying that all drug laws should devolve to the states, that we have to be pragmatic in how we present our issues (ie, don't start discussions by saying that 8-year-olds should be able to buy heroin), and how one guy did kind of put him on the spot by asking him about a statement he'd made about a year ago in which he said we should support our friend Colombia...in part because of their support in the drug war.

Oh, and I almost forgot: present at the next debate will be...Kerry Howley! Talking about selling her eggs, no less! Better lock up Warren now.

huh, wha? Oh I'll take an omelet, mushrooms, peppers, and onions.

Just saw Barr on Colbert. That just flushed any hope I had that this talking piece of furniture was going to be the savior of the LP. Barr could have tranquilized a rogue elephant. Without question the most boring Libertarian Ev-Er

I chose "Career Politician, Opportunist, and Weasel" because there wasn't an 'all of the above' option.

I have a picture of Bob Barr up on Flickr now:

Somehow I don't think his campaign's going to be wanting to use it in their materials, but I really like it as a kind of weird impressionistic portrait of him caught in a moment of introspection.

Oh wow. It's as if you captured him in the act of morphing into his own bronze statue.

Re: Bob Barr, 2008 Libertarian Candidate for President

The Boston Glob is saying that Barr could conceivably be a spoiler:
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2008/06/23/some_in_gop_fear_fiery_barr_as_spoiler/

But "fiery"? Are we talking about the same Bob Barr? Also, the article has a (to me) glaring factual error: "The Libertarian Party hasn't cracked 1 percent of the national popular vote in a presidential race..." In 1980, the LP got 1.1% of the popular vote. I know it still doesn't mean much, but it just bugs me that they're making a flat claim that's easily disprovable.

Stevo, thanks for your comment - I got a good laugh out of that one, and now that's all I can think when I see that picture.
