Dollhouse trailer now available online

Joss's new show, Dollhouse, now has a trailer online. They've got a commitment for 7 eps.

Trailer actually looks good. I was really skeptical about Buffy when I saw the concept, since I didn't think it could match the campy fun that was the movie. Then I was skeptical about Angel, because seriously, how much Buffyverse could they possibly support? Then I was skeptical about Firefly, because western in space? I was a little skeptical about the movie. I was skeptical about Dollhouse, when I read the idea. But the trailer looks like it could be fun.

More info here.

I see he dusted off Faith and rolled her back out into the sunlight.

I kinda wish he'd stop with the kung fu chick thing ...

Isn't that like wishing Michael Moore would stop with the blatant propaganda thing?

Maybe. To me, Joss has a lot more going on and the kung fu action chick is a distraction from the better stuff. I felt that way about River, too.

I think I'm starting to fall off the Whedon bandwagon. Either I can't take the heartbreak of another show I really like getting canceled, or as you said above, I'm getting tired of the same old action-kung fu chick motif. There's only so many situations for that same character, and he looks to be running out...

At least River had a a little more complexity that was revealed over time. We know we're getting Kung Fu Chick right off the bat here...

I don't share his affection for kung-fu chicks either. But I have to say Summer Glau was Eff You King amazing as River. Tell me when you saw the movie, you didn't go "DAaaamnnn" when the camera panned up to River hiding on the ceiling.

What's wrong with kung fu or action heroes?

But Eric, they don't have penises! How can we be in awe if they aren't role models for competition in breeding opportunities?

That being said, I'd like to see what Joss can come up with when he's not falling back on his standby. But not so much that I won't watch Eliza Dushku kick a little ass in the USA.

If Eliza Dushku is in it, I will watch it. I even watched a few episodes of Tru Calling, which wasn't as bad as you'd think (which isn't to say it isn't bad, mind you). Although The New Guy is a great movie, in which Eliza Dushku wears a bandanna as a bra, and . . . um, other stuff happens, I think. Maybe. That's all I really remember about that movie.

Re: Summer Glau - I don't get it. At all. Not the look and certainly not the acting.

Re: Kung Fu chicks. Done well - Michelle Yeoh back in the day. Done badly - Joss Whedon's resume. It's a line. There is a level of believable physicality required to pull off the kung fu thing. Holding your hands up like they taught you in cardio kick boxing doesn't help. Putting it in slow-mo makes it worse. There's a separate analysis to be done for the broader category of tough chicks, but that's another thread.

Oh man. I feel sorry for you. I don't mean that in the snarky way it usually sounds. With Summer it's all about the way she moves, she's a dancer. Joss made good use of that time and again.
