Seriously, anybody out there with sleep opportunities (AKA problems), kick Lunesta t' the curb. K Master Shultz is givin' Melatonin mad props, straight up.
I don't care what they say. Melatonin rocks the sleepy bye bye house!
P.S. Never take a sleep aid and a diuretic at the same time. Just trust me.

Re: Serotonin's Tricky but Melatonin Rocks!
Mrs. Lunchstealer has had similar issues. Both Lunestra and some one of the other sleep aids both were teh suck, but melatonin (along with some other stuff, possibly including some one of the sleep aids) did the trick, mostly. And a CPAP.

CPAP FTW. I use one now, and it makes an amazing difference in my quality of life.

Yeah, booze works sometimes, but there are side effects.
K Diddley's still on the melatonin tip, at least over booze and this guy:
Fast forward to 2:05 for the prescription for insomnia.
Re: Serotonin's Tricky but Melatonin Rocks!
melatonin is interesting, and it does work, but i found the side effects - namely ridiculous hangover-like states if i was awakened too early and the intense lucid dreams to be a bit too much. i mostly sleep now, most of the time. mostly.

Re: Serotonin's Tricky but Melatonin Rocks!
The hangover effect, for me anyway, was worst the first night and subsided after that.
The lucid dreams...that's a bonus!

I suppose I'd worry about getting hooked on Valium, and then I couldn't sleep. But I think I'd rather be hooked on Valium than tapping.
I hope they don't claim it cures OCD. ...'cause it looks like OCD. Like OCD is the cure for something else? That's like homeopathy, right?

i prefer my frightening delusions to occur only when i'm awake, thank you very much.

Wait, tappas cures insomnia? Does it have to be genuine Spanish recipes, or does some of that new fusion-cuisine count?

Re: Serotonin's Tricky but Melatonin Rocks!
I've been using melatonin now, based on the above advice, and it is pretty darn good, I must say.
This is a personal problem. There are very few personal problems that cannot be solved through a suitable use of high explosives. This is not one of those exceptions.
Re: Serotonin's Tricky but Melatonin Rocks!
Glad to hear it, Sandy.
I did it for a few months with no bad effects other than those stated... Groggy the first few days and lucid dreams.
I stopped taking it a few weeks ago, and I'm sleeping better now. ...but it's nice to know it's there.
