I need to check this out at home, but that ever growing List of Things I Don't Understand, please add:
Platform games and the people who like them.
It's one of those things that makes me believe words like "fun" need to be dropped from the language. If platform games are fun, I need a new word to describe enjoyable activities.
Re: Super Mario Frustration - WHO PUT THAT THERE?!
Most platformers belong to the genre I call "5th grader on summer vacation" games. They're not bad, if you have cat-like reflexes and the willingness to spend many hours grinding away at a game, and few demands beyond that. Me, I''m not quite so into games where the main determinant of success is having memorized every single level...
Re: Super Mario Frustration - WHO PUT THAT THERE?!
Yeah, platformers generally frustrate me at far lower difficulties than these levels. I don't like executing difficult maneuvers through environments just to trace out a single path. Give me a weird environment in an FPS or whatnot that I can do tricky things in, however, and it's more fun.
Re: Super Mario Frustration - WHO PUT THAT THERE?!
This is why the Mario series and Shiggy are the absolute coolest. With Mario 64, they basically invented the 3D platform game, which is my absolute favorite (think the new Ninja Gaiden and Castlevania games. The Nintendo people are total geniuses. I still think Mario 64 is one of the best games ever made.

Psychonauts is the best platformer ever.

Re: Super Mario Frustration - WHO PUT THAT THERE?!
Eric, I tried out "Unfair Platformer", and that one was actually kind of fun. At least it lets you know right off the bat that it's going to be impossible.

Re: Super Mario Frustration - WHO PUT THAT THERE?!
JD - yeah, it does have an evil humor to it. I'd rather actually play this Mario game for the better controls, though.

Heartily concur. That you people don't realize this is merely evidence that justice is fading from the world.
