Up to a couple years ago, I used to have my instructor (www.tacticalshooting.com) put on a special class for myself and a group. Advantages, I got a slight discount depending on the number of people (like, $125 in lieu of $175, per day, because we buy a day of time instead of per person at a class), and more importantly we can tailor the classes a bit. I haven't done it in a couple years, but thinking today I might resurrect it. It won't coincide with the birthday this year, as that's this coming weekend and I have other plans, but in a general sense, would anyone here be interested?
Hopefully this is not an innappropriate use of the forum, just reviewing some previous threads and my exchange with Ali and some past conversations with Jennifer make me think of it.

Re: Speaking of Bloomberg and Bang Bangs
That sounds way cool, but where are we talking about?
Re: Speaking of Bloomberg and Bang Bangs
Sorry, probably should have mentioned that. The school is in Surry, VA, which is an hour drive east of Richmond.

Not, let's hope, here:
(Sorry, but that's such a priceless classic that it needs to be dusted off and re-watched occasionally.)

Re: Speaking of Bloomberg and Bang Bangs
You know, that guy had the audacity to sue because that video got released? Said he couldn't get a job. I would have put down the pistol, walked out, sold all my steel, out of sheer embarrassment, and he has the audacity to sue. Sheesh.
Anyway, it's more like this or this. I especially like the second link about 1/3 of the way in where he's doing double taps. Of course, last time I was down there, he had me doing reloads, hed come out and check on me every couple hours Miyagi style (echos of "wax on, wax off..")
EDIT: These are shot at the home range in Surry, I recognize each of the ranges.

Re: Speaking of Bloomberg and Bang Bangs
Is it bad that I'm not sold on the overall utility of shooting without the use of sights? I'm open to new things, but I'm afraid that might be a philosophical difference too great to bridge ...
Re: Speaking of Bloomberg and Bang Bangs
No, he just does it as a demo, though in his beginner class you get out to 10 yds with black electrical tape over the sights so you can't use them. That's just to prove to yourself you can, though. If you have time, use them, but you're a hell of a lot quicker within combat/tac shooting competition distance by point shooting.

Re: Speaking of Bloomberg and Bang Bangs
Are you talking conventional sights here or those nifty built-in laser sights?

Re: Speaking of Bloomberg and Bang Bangs
Either. He speaks to that on the vid, the laser sights.

Re: Speaking of Bloomberg and Bang Bangs
I'm kinda mediocre speed wise for someone who's taken as many classes as I have. I can get a clean hit on an IDPA inner torso at 7 yards (the -1 region) from chest ready in about .5 sec using sights when I'm humming. I can do a double on that same target with split times of something short of .2. I can get a triple on separate targets at that range in the sub 1.5 zone. I know people who can consistently get triples in 1 sec.
How fast are we talking here?
EDIT for Grammir

FWIW, I think those things are amazingly cool, especially the ones that build in to the grip.

They are. I like the ones in the Glock, where they put it in the recoil rod. However, I remember that old military adage "tracers work both ways".

Re: Speaking of Bloomberg and Bang Bangs
IMO, those crimson trace thingies serve one useful purpose. If you have a pocket .38 or something that, because it is a pocket revolver, has crappy sights, the laser is a good deal. It allows for quick shooting in extreme close quarters, too, which I guess makes two things I like about them.
What I don't like about them is that in standard shooting configurations where you have a real set of sights, they train bad habits with regard to head positioning and sighting. They encourage you to lift your head up and follow the dot, in a sloppy, misaligned sort of way. There can also be confusion in proper alignment as to what exactly you should be looking at. Too much stuff going on.
