gears of war
the witcher
blacksite: area 51
hellgate: london
rainbow six: vegas (sucks)
and probably some other shit i'm forgetting right now. i don't know how i'm going to work through all that.

Re: man i got more games
Whatever happened to the Clancy series? I really like the realism and cooperative play in Athena Sword and such. It focuses your attention on tactics instead of twitching headshots. Bunny hopping was worthless as it should be. Nobody else makes games like that anymore, at least not good ones.
Re: man i got more games
I really gotta get Armed Assault, except that I am afraid it will make my machine sit in a corner and cry. I can't remember if I put it on my list or not, but LOMAC is on there, finally.

Re: man i got more games than the characters from house of games
i've discovered that i really suck at tactical fps games. i don't want to play realistic warfare shit. i want to blow people in half with a shotgun in slow motion.
so yeah anyone interested in vegas or lockdown for the pc?

Re: man i got more games than the characters from house of games
How was Lockdown? I'll take a pass on Vegas, based on what I've heard and your, uh, stellar recommendation.
Re: man i got more games than the characters from house of games
lockdown sucked harder than vegas imo.
but folks who like tactical fps games seem to like vegas a lot.

Re: man i got more games than the characters from house of games
I haven't played a Rainbow Six game since the very first one. Are they still the same sort of thing?
BTW, dhex, I finally finished Halflife 2 and Episode 1. Thanks again!

Re: man i got more games than the characters from house of games
ROCK!
i have no idea. lockdown was my first introduction to the series, and man i was all hells with that. then i saw vegas on sale for 15 bucks and i thought ok blow up casinos. no one told me that i'd have to wade through captain jingoism and his merry band of mexicans first.
really i just feel...bad...playing games like that. it's a naive fantasy world that i'm afraid people take seriously. (like a few days after 9/11 and seeing tom fucking clancy on a terrorism roundtable on charlie rose. that was not a good day for america.)

Re: man i got more games than the characters from house of games
I never played the first RS game, but it sounds from what I've read like they stayed pretty much the same, gameplay-wise, up until Lockdown. As of the Raven Shield point, there didn't seem to be too much jingoism - the bad guys were Eastern European neo-Nazis, and everybody hates Nazis, right?
Re: man i got more games than the characters from house of games
from what i've played, they all sound like they're aping lines from team america.

Re: man i got more games
Clancy himself, in all his hackishness, made perfect sense during the cold war, but now has no reason for being. James Bond has the same problem. What I liked about the Clancy series of games was the tactical realism of most of them. You have to slice the pie to move into a room. You can't do that ridiculous bunny hop then duck thing because the bullet to the leg effectively finishes your ability to fight. Also, they were short mission non zombie games.
In other news, Crysis is growing on me.
Re: man i got more games
I dunno; Bond had been fighting SPECTRE and other figures who really had nothing to do with the USSR since before I was born.
Re: man i got more games
I know. I mean, I guess I know. Maybe it is my Hegelian synthesis with the Bond meme. It is inextricably contextualized by the KGB and superpower cold war shenanigans for me ...
Re: man i got more games than the characters from house of games
Yeah, but I never thought Bond really fit as an archetype of the Cold War.
He does, however, require well-funded and well-equipped enemies with secret fortresses. This is probably why he keeps fighting all those evil tycoons - few, if any, active enemies of the West have the resources and stability for that.

Dude, I'll pay you the $7 shipping for the Zelda disc if I can mail you a check or use any form of payment other than paypal. I already have Ocarina of Time (came with my pre-purchase of Windwaker), but the other games on that disc would be SWEET.

Re: man i got more games than the characters from house of games
crysis update: crysis is fucking awesome!
edit: by awesome i mean "hells of compelling and shit."
i spent the first few missions playing predator - hiding in the jungle, jumping up and around patrols. i went a whole hour without firing a single shot. why? one, it's interesting, if not easy and two, combat is actually difficult in this game. though the destructable environments does add a weird degree of anarchy to combat - i've seen soldiers killed by falling trees, and i had a building fall on me more than once. the sheer range of potential outcomes and approaches is pretty stark compared even to far cry or stalker.
of course, the physics engine is a little weird - i've been killed by a boat sliding on top of me when i tried to jump a dune and failed. i also had a shelving unit kill me when it fell on me. uhhhhhh supersoldier v. metal shelves?
my one really big complaint is that the helicopters can not only see you when you're cloaked and in total darkness, but without a rocket launcher you are totally fucked. run away run away run away
